We have been busy trying to understand the world of tying fishing flies.
Absolutely fascinating and beautiful final products.
So far we have identified the flies below and the Pearsall’s Gossamer shades used.
We already have several of the Gossamer Silk shades in our range, have two more currently in production and are working to identify the exact shade required for the others.
Our aim is to have them all available from our stock supported range of Superfine Silks

Hot orange and orange please. Fly tying. Similar to Gosammer.
Hi Phillip,
Thank you for your enquiry.
We have stock of Hot Orange 19 and it’s available to buy on the website.
Please could you give more details of the shade ‘orange’ as we don’t have a shade with that exact description.
Kind regards
Paula
Hi Guys I have now tied several flies with my recent order of Morus tying silks. The silk is, I think, a little finer than Pearsall’s and certainly finer than the 54 Dean St version , but it ties beautifully. The neatness and the finished results are excellent and where space is a premium the smooth texture aids considerably. My second order is on the way! Regards Graham
One of the most famous authors on fly tying, Dave Hughes, wrote a book called “Wet Flies, Second Edition”, which was published in 2015. He is considered one of the current “authorities” on tying traditional flies that use Pearsall’s Gossamer silk thread. In his book, he recommends that fly tiers start out buying the thread colors Yellow, Green, Orange, and Crimson Red. From some of the fly patterns in the book, one can deduce that the colors the author recommends refer to the Pearsall’s colors: Primrose(#3), Highlander Green(#18), Gold (#6A) or Sherry Spinner(#6B), and Crimson (#13). At least one of the patterns in “Wet Flies” also uses Purple(#8). Some of those Pearsalls colors are still available online for exorbitant prices. However, the mythical Sherry Spinner(#6B) is highly sought after and unavailable.
If you were to make available the six colors: Primrose(#3), Highlander Green(#18), Gold (#6A), Sherry Spinner(#6B), Crimson (#13), and Purple(#8), you would cover about 75% of fly tier’s needs. The #6B would probably sell out quickly.

The color “Hot Orange” mentioned in a previous comment is Pearsall’s #19.
