Our Past
- Morus Silk owes its existence to the support of Langley Threads in Rhoose, Wales
- Langley Threads was started by John Cunningham and Carol Frieze to continue the production of Pearsall’s coloured filament silk when Pearsall’s focussed their efforts on undyed medical uses.
- Pearsall’s were established in 1795 and were renowned as manufacturers and merchants of fine silks for embroidery, knitting and sewing purposes. Some of Pearsall’s silk threads and flosses have been used since the 18th century for needlework and ecclesiastical vestments.
- Pearsall’s were renowned for their Gossamer – Superfine – pure silk filament.
Our Present
- All of the filament silks we currently offer were produced from the cocoon in the UK
- We operate a dye house in West Yorkshire so are able to replicate Pearsall’s shades, Langley Thread’s shades or match required shades using our spectrophotometer and laboratory facilities. Please contact us for more information.
- Fly fishermen and rod builders are catered for with our Gossamer/Superfine Silk available in shades used in Mike Harding’s ‘North Country Flies’.
- Our Superfine silk Shade Black MS 1005 is ideal for Blackwork
- Our Spun Silk range is available in either standard shades or dyed to customers’ colours.
